In a diagnostic mammogram, the patient's breast or breasts are examined via x-ray to evaluate a complaint or an anomaly discovered via routine physical exams or mammography screenings. These anomalies can include lumps and other anomalies present within the breast. The purpose of diagnostic mammography is to ascertain the exact size and location of the breast anomaly. Type of anomalies that can be detected by having a diagnostic mammography are microcalifications, macrocalifications and cell cluster masses.
